Students interested in fast-growing professions of beauty and natural health will find that Beauty Schools of America — boasting four campus locations in the Greater Miami area — offers future cosmetologists, barbers, salon managers, massage therapists and estheticians one of the most up-to-date standards of learning.
«Each training environment is designed to mirror a cutting-edge, high-end salon, spa, or barbershop,» explains Beauty Schools of America’s President John Rebstock. «Students train and work on clientele in an upscale environment to raise expectation levels of working in the field. All of our classrooms offer multimedia training, wired with Internet, projectors, and TV monitors. We are hands-on, visual, and extend an upbeat training environment. We do what it takes to get them (students) engaged to make the best students can be.»
While all training programs result in diplomas, there are various subjects of study from which to choose: If hair styling is your niche, then Beauty Schools of America provides a comprehensive 1,200-hour cosmetology program. In that program, boasts Rebstock, students learn every kind of hair service. In addition, trainees will learn basic skin care, nail service (manicuring, pedicure), makeup and more.
And, when it comes to Beauty Schools of America’s barbering program, Rebstock explains, «it’s a phenomenon. We just started it and the reception has been very good.» Involving 1,200 hours of in-depth training, the course teaches students cutting-edge techniques to become successfully licensed barbers.
Additonal programs include the 240-hour nail technology program offered at Beauty Schools of America, which teaches basic manicuring, pedicuring, and nail extensions on the market, including air brush nail art. For those drawn to makeup artistry, Beauty Schools of America provides its popular, 300-hour makeup artist/skin care specialist program where students learn about special effects, latex, airbrushing, and spray tanning.
In addition, the opportunity exists for students to gain education and training through its 900-hour full specialist salon management program. This course of study involves much of the aforementioned studies, including makeup artistry and nail technology.
Taking one step further in educational prospects, Beauty Schools of America gives students the opportunity to participate in its 625-hour massage therapist program. «Our massage therapist educators were leaders of the Mandarin Oriental Spa,» says Rebstock. This gives massage therapist graduates options to return to the school to learn additional Eastern massage modalities.
Offering both full and part-time educational studies, Beauty Schools of America is accredited, which means that students who qualify for financial aid are eligible to participate in one of many financial aid programs, including guaranteed Stafford Loans, PELL grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, and more.
«Accreditation ensures that the level of training is up to par. The equipment is more than adequate, and our staff all hold correct licensure,» Rebstock adds. «Completion rates are good in comparison to all comparable schools in the nation, with a very low dropout percentage, and good graduation and state board passing rate.» Additionally, Beauty Schools of America is approved for veteran’s training, Bright Futures scholarships, in-house financing (no interest), and I20 Visa through the Department of Homeland Security.
In-depth career development services are also offered through Beauty Schools of America: «When students are almost ready to graduate, we involve them with a lot of outside events; we take pictures and help them create portfolios,» says Rebstock. «We encourage students to research the job market and get to know the salon market through field trips. We want them to become as much as an expert on the salon for which they want to work.»
Furthermore, Rebstock elaborates on the Beauty Schools of America’s policy on prerequisites: «If they (students) have a desire to work with people, are hands-on visual learner, have an open mind, are receptive to change, and have a passion for the industry, we will do whatever it takes to get (students) through the industry.»
Rebstock is also quite proud of the school’s involvement in major events. «Our students are extremely active in community grassroots programs, which have provided makeup artistry and hairstyling for famed singer/songwriter, Shakira, the Latin Grammy Block Party, Ms. Black Teen USA, and the Florida Marlins’ Cheerleaders.»
