Students in north east today and career vision tomorrow
Students In North East Today And Career Vision Tomorrow
The road-map for education in the 21st century should focus on developing our abilities to flourish in a world that is fundamentally diverse and unsurprisingly different. We in the North East should focus on knowledge creation through all possible information sources. We have to become a knowledge-generating society instead of a knowledge-absorbing society if we want to rise to the world standard as a society not only as few individuals. It’s time we wake up to the need of the hour to know what we should learn for the future and therefore all educationist should align themselves on what to teach, how to teach and whom to teach “what”. As we talk of Globalization, we must take into account that our students are adequately prepared for tomorrow.
Students & Teachers should work together with bigger focus on innovative learning, innovative teaching. We need to go beyond conventional way of learning & discipline towards an interdisciplinary approach. Interdisciplinary approach enables integration of concepts, theories, method, techniques and perspectives from two or more disciplines to advance fundamental understanding. Therefore our Students in the Region should pick up other courses side-by-side or professional trainings of their choice that suite their skills and abilities. In the past a person would remain in one profession for a lifetime. Now survey has shown that on an average a person changes at least 10 professions in his lifetime. Therefore instead of preparing a career for life, we have to prepare a life of careers. Therefore we have to keep upgrading our knowledge and our skills and also keep adding skills. When we start doing that? It’s now. Not necessarily when you are already in a profession but right from when you are a student who are about to take on a profession.
Today student should have independent of the field of knowledge, social and communication skills, management, creative thinking, capacity of dealing with complex and multidisciplinary work and team.
Skills that we should build in our students for the future –
Our students should build very strong communication and presentation skills, they should be able to acquire and process information. We need to build leadership and team management skills. They need to prepare how to deal with uncertainty, conflict handling and failure management, coping with conflicting demands in different socio-economic environments. We have to inculcate in our students skills of integrating knowledge from different disciplines, need to be creative & innovative thinker. Students should learn how to adapt to international, intercultural environment and develop competence working in such environments. With these they also can become entrepreneurs in making our new world.
Those who are involved in the field of international education and job market realize how North Eastern Students are unconnected to most of the world and information and most of the time lack desired skills. They are not aware what skills that are needed for our future. Most students are puzzled about right career paths and remain confused or do not realize the importance of career planning.
